My name is James Guss (#97327). I am a 41 year old first time offender
serving a life without parole sentence.
I was 19 years old when I entered the A.D.C. for murder. While I was not the actual murderer, I was
using drugs and alcohol, and was about 15 years younger than the actual
murderer, and I received a harsher sentence than he.
Since incarceration, I have matured, stopped using drugs and
alcohol, learned to abide by the rules and have obtained bachelor’s degree in
Divinity, a master’s degree in Nouthetic Counseling, and at this time am
working on a doctorate. In sum, I have
tried to use my time correctly to better myself, and help others through what I
have learned educationally and through my mistakes in hope that my new life can
have a positive impact in the world.
It is my hope and prayer to one day obtain freedom to use my
degrees and life experiences to help a larger portion of people. If given that opportunity, I will be a member
of society that gives back, helping others, and makes a positive impact displaying
that people can change thereby giving those who are on the wrong road a hope
and knowledge of how to change and not go down the road I did.
